Crooked Lane Books is looking for an ambitious, highly connected, and energetic Editor to join our team as we launch Alcove Press, our new imprint focused on book club fiction and reading group titles. Responsibilities include acquiring and editing top fiction with strong sales potential and helping to shape the voice of the program as a whole as we move toward our fall 2020 launch.

Duties include the evaluation, acquisition, and editing of 12-15 high impact titles per year. Knowledge and comfort with profit and loss statements, negotiating deal terms, and managing project budgets are necessary. The editor will oversee titles through all stages of the editorial and production process, including collaborating with the design team to create the most marketable package for every title, and preparing sales materials, including title information sheets, catalog copy, and presenting at sales conferences. The editor will be expected to have a keen understanding of the trade fiction marketplace as a whole and book club fiction in particular. Close relationships with agents and authors are essential.


  • Bachelor’s degree or higher
  • 5-8 years of experience in an acquisitions editorial role at a trade publishing house
  • Established track record of publishing commercial book club fiction
  • Established network of authors, agents, and imprints
  • Ability to conceive and acquire high profile projects
  • Experience supervising and managing editorial staff
